Swedish Massage in Glasgow

The Swedish massage is regarded as a spa massage and has become popular all over the world, so of course we offer it here! Swedish Massage was born from Per Hendrik Ling, who is known as the father of European physical education. While studying at the University of Stockholm, he gathered information about the science of bending the body and developed it to help stimulate blood circulation and flexibility, allowing it to move more effectively.

How Is a Swedish Massage Different from Other Massages?

The techniques of a Swedish Massage are quite different from our Traditional Thai massage in Glasgow. There are 5 main techniques, as follows:

  • Effigies is the technique of stroking the muscles in alternating circular motions towards the heart, to stimulate blood flow.
  • Petrissage is the technique of lifting the muscles away from the bone and squeezing. This stimulates blood circulation and activates the lymphatic system.
  • Tapotement is a technique that involves stroking and tapping muscles to stimulate them, as well as the nervous system.
  • Friction is the exertion of pressure onto the muscles, to increase the temperature of the muscles in that area. As a result, the contracted ligaments (or fascia) are loosened.
  • Vibration is a massage technique in which the muscles are shaken or moved, in a consistent rhythm, at different speeds. This causes the deep muscles to relax, stimulate a feeling of alertness.

Who Can Benefit from A Swedish Massage?

If you fit into any of these categories, a Swedish massage will be just perfect for you!

  • Those who do not like intense massages, intense pressure, or the bending of the body.
  • People who have to work with repeated movements, such as standing, sitting or tasks that require walking all day.
  • Athletes, or people who exercise regularly, that want to relax their muscles without worrying about bruising or muscles injury.
  • Patients with cancer or heart disease, as the Swedish Massage is a medium-strength massage. The risk of harm is relatively low but, it is worth noting, the treatment should be caried out under the supervision of a doctor.

 How Long Does It Take?

60 minutes as standard, but we also offer 90- and 120-minute sessions. This style of massage is good for relaxation if you don't have much tension in your body. If you would like us to focus on a specific region, such as your back or legs, as well as including work on your body as whole, then 90-minute or 120-minute sessions are your best options. The extended time of the session allows your therapy to really get into the muscles and focus on alleviating tension and knots.
